Janina Mitchell

2002-2009 (Years 7-13)

A levels: French (A), English Literature (A), History (B)

Degree: Law with French Law LLB

I am a student at the University of Surrey, currently in the 3rd year of my 4 year course. I have just finished one semester studying French Law and Political Sciences in a French University and I’m about to start my 4 month work placement in a law firm in Lille, as a legal translator. I have really enjoyed my time in France so far! I was attracted to this degree because I was able to combine my interest in the Law and my love for the French language, which I developed at Virgo with our very own Mrs Wates. Although there are degrees at other universities that would also allow me to do this, the University of Surrey has amazing graduate employment figures due to the Professional Training Year, as employers can see that we have already obtained some experience - in my case, abroad. This was very important to me when researching courses. I really enjoy my course but there is an incredible amount of reading and work to do.  Late nights in the campus library are not uncommon! But that’s not to say that it’s all work and no play – let’s face it, you don’t just go to Uni for the degree!

In a few years I hope to qualify as a solicitor in an international law firm.
